ISS students will have the opportunity to have their artwork critiqued by one of the instructors. This is an opportunity to recognize areas of strength and others that may need improvement. By constructively evaluating our work we become better artists. We are dedicated to helping you find the style and ideas that are best suited to you.
Each student will have a 20 minute consultation with one of the teachers. This is a time of sharing opinions and clarifying directions. Each student brings 10 slides of their recent work to the consultation. It is in this private discussion that we come up with a personalized plan to assist the student in meeting their goals for the duration of the seminar, and beyond.
For five of the 9 days, the student will be in a “pod” group with one teacher. During this time the teacher will circulate within the group, observing and giving feedback. At the end of these days, there is a group critique of work done that day. It is here that we share our images, ideas, frustrations, and victories.
By seeing what your peers are doing and how differently they conceive of and resolve their ideas, we become aware of possibilities in our own work. The critiques are valuable not only for the feedback from the instructor, but for the lessons gained in how to assess and refine your own work.
